Plumley was once again treated to a wonderful evening’s entertainment by The Other Theatre Company whose previous productions have included many of Alan Ayckbourn’s West End hits. In such company ‘Who’s Your Father’ written by Harry Kennedy had much to live up to; it did not disappoint.
The play is set in a modern day retirement home for actors, Sylvie Darling (played by Sophia Kennedy), widow and owner of the retirement home, runs a comfortable house for her eccentric and often irritating guests. Frobisher Williams (played by Harry Kennedy) a well-known theatrical actor and Elliot Hart (played by Roger Barlow) a fairly successful film actor constantly spar in an effort to score points against one another. Phoebe Ingrams (played by Anne-Marie Lonsdale) is in turn forgetful and funny and causes consternation to all who try to have an intelligent conversation with her. The death of an old acquaintance and the promise of an inheritance trigger a series of events involving the sudden arrival of............ ‘007’ (played by Jon White).
It is is well written; the plot works perfectly proceeding through twists and turns to a realistic and unforeseen conclusion thanks to a series of red herrings thrown in at regular intervals. The dialogue is humorous, witty, at times mischievous and utterly believable. The actors were well cast and all produced exceptional performances; it was also a superb directorial debut for Carole Carr. The combined efforts of writer, cast and director produced a memorable performance.
This is a play that should have been seen by all; those who could not attend missed a real treat.
